Introduction
Welcome to Study Buddy, an educational application developed by BevyLabs. This privacy policy explains BevyLabs' commitment to protecting your privacy while using our app, Study Buddy.
1. Information We Collect
While our app strives to minimize data collection, certain features require communicating with trusted third-party service providers (Google Vertex AI and Google AdMob):
- Content of Images: When you use the feature to generate practice questions, the image and text content extracted from study notes you capture or select is processed via Google Cloud Vertex AI solely to generate relevant educational questions and answers.
- Answers You Type: When you check essay answers, your answers and the quiz's reference answers are sent to Google Cloud Vertex AI to be graded. They are not used for any other purpose.
- Question Reports: If you report a question, the question text, the reason you choose and any comment you write are sent to BevyLabs through Google Forms so we can review problems with AI-generated content. Reports do not include your name or device identifiers.
- Age Check: On first launch we ask for your birth month and year. Only the result (whether you are 18 or older) is stored, on your device. Your birth date is not stored or sent anywhere.
- Device and Advertising Identifiers: We use Google AdMob to provide optional rewarded video ads that unlock bonus scans. Google AdMob may automatically collect device identifiers (such as the Android Advertising ID), approximate IP location, and ad performance data to serve ads, prevent fraud, and maintain compliance.
- Technical and Diagnostic Data: Basic device information (device model, operating system version, and technical performance metrics) may be collected to ensure app compatibility and stability.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
- To Provide Core App Functionality: Processing educational text and notes to generate multiple-choice and essay practice questions, and grading essay answers.
- Safety and Quality: Reviewing reported questions to improve the quality and safety of AI-generated content.
- Rewarded Advertisements: Serving short rewarded video advertisements when requested by the user to grant bonus scan quotas.
- App Improvement and Stability: Monitoring compatibility issues, preventing crashes, and maintaining service quality.
3. Third-Party Data Sharing
We share necessary information only with the following trusted third parties:

4. Use of App Permissions
Study Buddy requires the following permissions:
- Camera access: To capture images of educational text and study notes.
- Gallery / Storage access: To select existing images of educational text from your device.
- Internet access: To communicate with Google Cloud Vertex AI for question generation and to load rewarded video ads.
- Notifications: To send an optional daily study reminder to help keep your study streak going.
5. Advertising & User Choice
Study Buddy includes optional rewarded video ads. You can control or reset your Android Advertising ID at any time through your device settings:
Settings > Google > Ads > Reset advertising ID or Delete advertising ID.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the app asks for your consent before showing personalised ads. You can change your choice at any time with the Privacy settings link on the app's home screen.
6. Age Requirement and Children's Privacy
Study Buddy is intended for users aged 18 and over. Users who indicate they are under 18 cannot use the AI features (generating or grading questions) and are not shown ads; they can still study decks they created earlier. The app is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
7. Data Storage and Retention
- On your device: Your saved decks, quiz results, study streaks, settings and the note photos kept for open-book review are stored only on your device. Note photos are deleted when you delete the deck, and all app data is removed when you uninstall the app.
- Sent for processing: Note images and answers sent to Google Cloud Vertex AI are used only to fulfil your request and are handled under Google Cloud's data terms.
- Reports: Question reports are kept only as long as needed to review them. You can ask us to delete a report by emailing us.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
BevyLabs may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted within the app and on our privacy policy page linked in the Google Play Store listing. Continued use of the app after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
